They are not free, not a single one of them, but can be obtained in other ways.
I believe that there isn't any good or even close to good DJ program that's free though
Is it possible to make proper mixes without hardware? I have Virtual DJ, but I wouldn't know how to start. :|
I use FL Studio 9 for producing. I may consider some new program, cause I keep hearing FL is bad.
FL Studio isn't bad, anyone who says that obviously don't know anything about music or the program itself. Basically, just bullshit.
Also, Virtual DJ isn't intended for producing music, but is made for beatmixing and yeah, generally mixing live. It's all about what you personally prefer though.
Also, as much it is possible to make good proper mixes with hardware it is indeed possible with software (with programs like Serato, Scratch, etc).
FL studio 9 XXL is what I use, it's not too complicated but ofc it takes time to learn the program. So I can recommend it for you and a tip: be patient, you will learn after a while! ^^
