Show your desktop!
Re: Show your desktop!
I use Ubuntu fairly regularly - mainly for performing low-level formats using HDParm on my SSD, but also a fileserver which I help run has Ubuntu. I tried Fedora, but it's a pain. Will look into Debian one day if I ever have time
But yeah, I'm mainly a Windows man - 7 is my primary OS and the one I know most about. I also run Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on my laptop with a dreamspark key.

Re: Show your desktop!
You should, really! Ubuntu is based on Debian, so there's not much difference in the interface you'll be using. The good thing about Debian is that you have so much control over the installation-phase. For a server-person like me, that's really good - you can choose how much UI and other bloat you want to install already during the installation-phase. In regular Ubuntu, you'd have to download a completely separate ubuntu-server.iso and install that instead - annoying I say!NickCPC wrote:I use Ubuntu fairly regularly - mainly for performing low-level formats using HDParm on my SSD, but also a fileserver which I help run has Ubuntu. The day I upgrade the server OS on our server I will use R2! I promise !NickCPC wrote:But yeah, I'm mainly a Windows man - 7 is my primary OS and the one I know most about. I also run Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on my laptop with a dreamspark key.
Re: Show your desktop!
Yes, that definitely does sound like an improvement and I can see why it would be useful for you Doggie (I know you said these forums aren't hosted on the gameserver, so I assume you hire out a webserver too which has Debian on for hosting this and your blog??). I will definitely try and give it a go over the summer holiday!Doggie52 wrote:You should, really! Ubuntu is based on Debian, so there's not much difference in the interface you'll be using. Holy sh!t, it's clean. You should take a look at mine - when I clean up my desktop -- give me 15 minutes and there's as big a mess as it was before I deleted/moved everything. It's sad, tbh.tomraider wrote:Little funny desktop
