FL Studio isn't bad, anyone who says that obviously don't know anything about music or the program itself. Basically, just bullshit. Also, Virtual DJ isn't intended for producing music, but is made for beatmixing and yeah, generally mixing live. It's all about what you personally prefer though. Also...

They are not free, not a single one of them, but can be obtained in other ways.
I believe that there isn't any good or even close to good DJ program that's free though
