If it starts that just means it is receiving USB power, not an awfully positive sign really as this just means the wires to the HDD aren't severed or broken. I would do as you're about to do -- take it to a shop and try it in a computer rather than through the dock. If it spontaneously stops working...

I understand your frustration but there is very little I can do at the moment. The only internet I have available has a lovely habit of resetting itself every 12-24 hours. As I rely completely on remote control of the server, an internet reset would be devastating and so I need to work out a way of ...

Things haven't gone quite as I hoped regarding my move to London, and so I have not been able to set up the servers again. Of course I give you all a heads-up on this! I realize this may worry some of you but I assure you nothing will happen to the website, the email or my commitment to the community. All that happens is some server downtime.
