Hi,I got a question around Steam ID's. Today when i tried to catch a cheater at the 1.6 server I typed "status" in console and I started to write down the cheaters ID. But,when I almost was done I saw some numbers changed! I really got confused so I checked if I maybe wrote down another players ID. But I'm 100% sure that I wrote right ID and noone left. So here is my question: is it possible that the ID can change,or is it a kind of cheat? Please help!

If you could change your Steam ID, there would be no point in bans.

A Steam ID is unique to ones' account and can not ever be changed unless your account has been stolen from you (upon return, they give you a new ID, usually 8-digits) or you've created a new account and bought CSS on it. Simple as that.

The console outputs text like a printer does - it's impossible to change the output of the console on cue, unless I guess you have the HL2 source code to change the actions of the console... Basically unless it was a senior Valve developer/player (i.e. highly unlikely), this is simply not possible. No hack would allow this unless you knew the source code and to get that, you'd have to work at Valve.

I'm guessing the line which you were reading probably just moved up a line or two as some other action was being logged by the console which moved all the text :) But yeah - I can assure you it wasn't a hack!

however i don't think it's a dumb question i googled it and
couldn't find it but i think it's trange
now a day you have hacks for allmost everything,
so strange you can't change a 1 into a 2 or someting..

If you have typed status in the console and it has given you the output it's like it has printed out a paper for you (to use Nick's analogy). There is no chance whatsoever that the "printed" SteamID can change afterwards - no chance whatsoever. Most likely you've accidentally scrolled the window or something else, because you can't edit what's already been printed either (which means you haven't accidentally overwritten the ID or something).

Hope this clears stuff up, I'll close the thread now :) .
